Searching for a suitable gaming controller.
“Due to a traumatic brain injury after a car accident, I have left-sided weakness and can only use my left thumb and index finger on my left hand. My whole hand cramps up after holding something for a while. I was searching for a gaming controller suitable for a PlayStation because I haven’t been able to play effectively with the standard controller that comes with the gaming system,” shared Courtney.
“I was paired with AbleGamers Peer Counselor Zach. We talked about what was the most troubling part of gameplay for me. The left side of my body has severe weakness and my left hand has severe spasms and stiffness. Counseling helped me figure out what I needed to move on in gameplay. It took some back and forth before we got everything together but he was able to find two different controllers to help with my left arm/hand. He let me choose the one I thought would best suit me.”
Courtney chose the Sony Access controller, a versatile controller kit that can be customized to meet players’ diverse needs, designed in close collaboration with the accessibility community and experts like AbleGamers to help players with disabilities play more comfortably for longer.
“I find that the gameplay, although at times still challenging, is not because I can’t use the controller but because it’s been so long since I was able to play. So I have some catch-up to do and practice with the new controller, which is so much easier.”
