Brandon wanted to play video games with friends and family again, but he found it challenging to find the right equipment. “Gaming means a lot to me because it’s a way I used to bond with my kids,” he shared. I would like to continue to bond with my kids playing video games. Since being injured, I have had very limited gaming opportunities.”

While at the Shepherd Center, a Powered by AbleGamers partner, Brandon tried some adaptive gaming controllers, like the Xbox Adaptive Controller and the Quadstick. When he reached out to AbleGamers, our Peer Counselors determined that the Quadstick was a good choice to get Brandon gaming with his family and friends again.

With support from the AbleGamers Peer Counselor team and the folks at the Shepherd Center, Brandon was able to set up his new gaming equipment. “Thank you, AbleGamers, for helping me through the process of getting equipment and learning how to use it.”

AbleGamers was honored to be part of Brandon’s journey to play video games with family and friends again. By providing adaptive gaming equipment and support, Brandon can now connect with his loved ones through the joy of gaming. Facilitating these meaningful moments of connection and inclusion reaffirms our commitment to making gaming accessible to everyone, and we are grateful to have played a role in Brandon’s story.

Playing video games with family and friends is a fantastic social activity that helps reduce social isolation by fostering togetherness and shared experiences. Whether it’s teaming up for cooperative missions or competing in friendly matches, gaming creates opportunities for meaningful interactions and bonding. These shared adventures strengthen relationships, provide a sense of belonging, and open lines of communication. By bringing people together in a fun and engaging way, video games help combat feelings of loneliness and promote a sense of community and connectedness.
