Carlos’ Journey Back to Gaming with AbleGamers.

For Carlos, video games have always been a way to relieve stress and connect with others. However, five years ago, he had to give up gaming due to the progression of muscular dystrophy. “I used to play every day for many hours,” he recalls. “Playing video games helps decrease my stress and improve my mental health. In the game, you can be whoever you want to be.”

Carlos began gaming at the age of five, and his passion for video games has never wavered. He loves sports games, especially FIFA, and enjoys teaming up with others in shooting games. But as his condition worsened, gaming became increasingly difficult, eventually forcing him to stop altogether. “Getting back into gaming would make a big difference because sometimes you need certain things to help you cope,” Carlos shared. “It helps you mentally.”

Determined to play again, Carlos reached out to AbleGamers for solutions. AbleGamers’ Peer Counseling team provided him with the adaptive equipment he needed to game comfortably once more. “They definitely did what I wanted to get back to gaming,” he says
Now, Carlos is once again immersed in the world of video games, playing his favorite sports titles and enjoying the social connection that comes with gaming. “I love meeting people from other places and countries. Gaming helps me escape from reality, and sometimes we all need that.”

With AbleGamers’ support, Carlos has returned to one of his favorite activities—gaming. “Thank you so much for helping me get back to my favorite leisure activity!” he says. His story is a powerful testament to how adaptive gaming can transform lives. We are so glad we were part of Carlos’ journey back to gaming.

Playing video games is a valuable social activity that helps reduce social isolation by connecting people across distances and diverse backgrounds. Through multiplayer games, online communities, and cooperative gameplay, individuals can interact, collaborate, and build friendships. These virtual interactions provide a sense of belonging and support, fostering meaningful connections that transcend physical barriers. By engaging in shared gaming experiences, players can combat loneliness and create a supportive social network, making video games a powerful tool for enhancing social well-being.
