Damion
It’s more than just a game. Gaming and socializing with friends.
“Before my accident I gamed every day with friends and socialized with them. Being able to play again will impact my life tremendously,” shared Damion. At AbleGamers we know it is more than just a game. Video games serve as a platform for social interaction, allowing players to connect with others, build friendships and enjoy shared experiences regardless of physical distance.
Frustrated by his inability to game and socialize with friends after a spinal cord injury, Damion was referred to AbleGamers through our partner site, Ability KC. After discussing with Damion and understanding his desired gaming experiences and preferences our Peer Counseling team decided the QuadStick would be most useful in getting him gaming again.
For those unfamiliar, the QuadStick is a hands-free controller operated solely using the mouth. It allows you to customize your gameplay style by translating the actions (buttons, triggers, and joystick movements) on a standard video game controller to a series of sip and puff switches that are attached to the end of a joystick.
“The QuadStick has brought me great joy because it has allowed me to do one thing that I enjoyed doing on a daily basis before my injury. The gaming groups were cool because they allowed me to meet other people who have similar disabilities and showed me how diverse gaming adaptations can be. The Peer Counselor was awesome. Without them, I would not be able to use my QuadStick or have it tailored to me.”
It was an honor to join you on your journey to game again. We hope that the QuadStick provides you with the accessibility and enjoyment you deserve, empowering you to fully engage in the gaming experiences you love. We’re here to support you every step of the way.
Your support makes our life-changing work possible.
